The night was one of those perfect summer Southern nights for a high school football game. The sun had set, the air was thick and muggy, and the sky was a clear, deep blue. The sounds of cheers, jeers, marching bands and fans filled the air as two people played a game of tag off to the side of the bleachers.
The woman looked young. Dark hair, light eyes, blue jeans, a tee and flip-flops. The boy was about four. Tow-headed, big, round blue eyes, and a gigantic smile. They chased each other around and around, both giggling and squealing.
The woman came to a stop and leaned over, both hands on her knees. Her chest heaved as she attempted to draw in the thick air. She grabbed the boys Sprite and took a long drink.
"HEY! That's my drink," he shouted.
"I know, but I need it. I'm trying to get my breath back," she said as she took another pull from the cool bottle. "I just need a little. Do you want a drink of it?"
"Yeah."
He took the bottle, gulped the sticky sweet liquid, then, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand, he handed it back to her.
"Here you go! Here you breath back!"
He ran off laughing as she blinked back the tears...
